Accessible fragments of generalized probabilistic theories, cone equivalence, and applications to witnessing nonclassicality

چکیده
The formalism of generalized probabilistic theories (GPTs) was originally developed as a way to characterize the landscape conceivable physical theories. Thus, GPT describing given theory necessarily includes all physically possible processes. We here consider question how provide GPT-like characterization particular experimental setup within theory. show that resulting is not generally in and itself, rather, it described by more general mathematical object we introduce term an accessible fragment. then equivalence relation, termed cone equivalence, between fragments (and, special case, standard GPTs). give number examples scenarios are best using fragments, where moreover, cone-equivalence arises naturally. prove fragment admits classical explanation if only every other equivalent also explanation. Finally, leverage this result several fundamental results regarding requirements for witnessing failure noncontextuality. In particular, neither incompatibility among measurements nor assumption freedom choice necessary failures noncontextuality, such can be witnessed even when arbitrarily inefficient detectors.

Discord and nonclassicality in probabilistic theories.
Quantum discord quantifies nonclassical correlations in quantum states. We introduce discord for states in causal probabilistic theories, inspired by the original definition proposed by H. Ollivier and W. H. Zurek [Phys. Rev. Lett. 88, 017901 (2001)]. We show that the only probabilistic theory in which all states have null discord is classical probability theory. Non-null discord is then not ju...
متن کاملGeneralized structure of higher order nonclassicality
A generalized notion of higher order nonclassicality (in terms of higher order moments) is introduced. Under this generalized framework of higher order nonclassicality, conditions of higher order squeezing and higher order subpoissonian photon statistics are derived. A simpler form of the Hong-Mandel higher order squeezing criterion is derived under this framework by using an operator ordering ...
متن کاملGeneralized Random Coefficients With Equivalence Scale Applications
We propose a generalization of random coefficients models, in which the regression model is an unknown function of a vector of regressors, each of which is multiplied by an unobserved error. We also investigate a more restrictive model which is additive (or additive with interactions) in unknown functions of each regressor multiplied by its error. We show nonparametric identification of these m...
متن کاملa survey of theories regarding translation equivalence
translator is also dealing with two different cultures at the same time. this particular aspect seems to have been taken into consideration by the second group of theorists who regard translation equivalence being essentially a transfer of the message from the sc to the tc and a pragmatic/ semantic or functionally oriented approach to translation . finally, there are other translation scholars ...
متن کاملStructure of Optimal State Discrimination in Generalized Probabilistic Theories
We consider optimal state discrimination in a general convex operational framework, so-called generalized probabilistic theories (GPTs), and present a general method of optimal discrimination by applying the complementarity problem from convex optimization. The method exploits the convex geometry of states but not other detailed conditions or relations of states and effects. We also show that p...
